Engineering Manager. Creative Technologist.

Chris Sloan

I do my best work where design intuition, clean code, and technical strategy meet.

Chris Sloan

My path started at Virginia Tech, where I moved from Computer Science to graduate with a BFA in Graphic Design back in 2005. That dual background shaped my career: I care deeply about the craft of user experiences, but I also have the technical depth to build, scale, and architect them.

Over the past two decades, my journey has spanned design agencies, hyper-local platforms, startups, and high-growth platforms like UserTesting, where I served as a Staff Engineer and Manager. From there, I moved to Guru as a Staff Engineer before stepping into a Director of Engineering role. Today, I am an Engineering Manager at ClickUp.

These days, my primary focus is technical leadership, helping developers grow, and steering team strategy. But I never lost that curiosity for getting into the code alongside my engineers. Moving from React to Angular in my day-to-day work keeps me sharp, and with the rise of agentic coding, the door is wide open. It has made diving into new tech effortless, letting me rapidly prototype ideas and even build mobile apps using Dart and Flutter.

Outside of software engineering, The Sloan Creative is my home for side pursuits. Whether I am behind the lens shooting sports and landscape photography, capturing videography, or experimenting with post-processing tools, I am always exploring what is possible where technology and art meet.
